If someone can help me get this post out there:
Jails and prisons are full of victims of domestic violence who fought back and ‘dropped’ their attackers. The system is full of cops and professionals more than willing to explain a victim’s behavior as “That’s not how a real victim would behave.” So excuse me if this guy giving someone the pass to ‘drop’ their…
“Use the system. Use the system. Use the system.”
He was cautioned for trespassing — but not arrested — when he showed up at Monica’s house again on June 19.
You can definitely say that as often as you want, that’s a great thing to say, here, I’m gonna call my parents, can you say it into the phone to them
Can I just say that The Slot might be the best new blog I’ve seen lately, and BTSTD is definitely the greatest column of all time?
I actually would think it’d be fun! At least you know there’ll be an open bar with expensive bubbly.
I mostly agree! Not much in this article bothers me, but that’s probably because even though I’m straight and enjoy having sex with men from time to time, I don’t typically think very highly of straight cis men as people and don’t care much for their hookup culture (and its lopsided benefits) or what they think of me…
And in a world where people don’t have limitless money? :P
Be stay at home mothers?
Not to have sex (unless you are married to a Republican and not working or the secret mistress of one).
I don’t know what republicans want. They don’t want women to be able to have babies they don’t want woman to be able to avoid having babies.
Oh my god I’m so glad there’s a space for me to express how stupid this article is. It’s literally the exact same article papers have been writing about rich white kids in Manhattan since the 1920s, updated each year to include the new technology and trend.
Jia, I really respect you as a writer, and I liked this essay.
And I’m just adding my thoughts on the subject to the conversation, not criticizing the piece or the author. I didn’t say anything about either, just added my two cents.
you’re right and i think this author (a feminist) and her editor (me, also a feminblahablawef) would agree with you—within the first section of this piece she specifically says that false allegations are so serious that we need to “discuss false allegation narratives more, not less”
Eh. This is one issue where I diverge greatly from feminists on, probably due to my ethnicity. As a black man in America, I just can’t be so dismissive of the the existence of false allegations of rape and the impact that they have when they occur. Many an African-American man in the early-mid 20th century ended up…
This makes me sad since I really love these two women, as actresses and the characters they play.
I mean...that’s more than a gripe at that point, no? Refusing to work together is some pretty straight up unprofessional shit. I mean, if I refused to work with anyone in this office who bugged the hell out of me it would just be me and the kid who gets lunch and even he’s on thin ice after the “Oatmeal Raisin cookie”…
