That study was actually proven to be fairly inaccurate — not a huge surprise, given that it was funded by the American Chemistry Council, a trade group representing the interests of plastic bag manufacturers.

Not necessarily. You can train dogs to poop in specific areas of the yard, where you don't walk. It's not hard, you just give them a treat whenever they poo in the right area. Most of my dogs have actually just done it instinctively; I've only had to train one.
