Not to defend Kevin Powell since he insists on running against my best friend's uncle constantly, but I must call bullshit on the "every educated black guy" thing. Not every educated black guy fully bought into Afrocentrism, not even every liberal educated black guy.

well Mike's behavior in this show is also a staple of genre fiction (Black guy death #51: Heroic Sacrifice). You could pretty much tell he wasn't long for the series from the moment he impulsively ran to rescue his son. Actually, he should have been wearing a red shirt for those that didn't quite catch on.

well
While I agree completely about the end credits shot, I found it mostly unmoving. Last week's ep set a really high standard.

Depressing?
really? Oh dear.

Lt. Broccoli w/ win

I didn't have that same feeling about Mellow Gold. I think it benefits from being released when media were looking for that new Voice of Generation X as they set about trying to understand "slackers."

No, really, if his comparison is "pastiche" which is arguably inaccurate regarding Harper, then why not compare him to Beck? (here is where someone will say "bekuz Beck is gud" or something) Or Madonna? Or The Killers? Or . . . . seeit?

oh god
you didn't really just compare Lenny Kravitz and Ben Harper, two totally different artists sonically who draw from completely disparate influences did you? If you were just gonna do the black thing, you could have at least compared Harper to Jeffery Gaines. They both seem to dig Neil Young. For your next

Rocklobsters, you went all out for so little return.

RAP?
Because 30 years later, White people rapping somehow is still considered intrinsically humorous.

ok, curiosity sated. This film has naught to do with SCREAM except genre. It was not, however, worth the wait as stated above. Basically a 70's drive-in horror movie with a cinematography update.

What? No:

The visuals is what I built my opinion on, since it was barely on long enough to get any idea where they were going with the plot.

you're too smart by half. It isn't the mere citing of the work that is pretentious, it's the assertion that if X is not the equal of INSERT GREAT CANONICAL LITERATURE then X is weak, and moreover anyone who likes X is stupid. It'd would be like saying that a high school state champion soccer team is lame because they

"in-culture" advertising is a euphemism for marketing directly to ethnic groups. I don't understand why that makes him more of an idiot.

Gonna watch it this week, scored the disc after reading this piece, as I'd forgotten about that incident. We shall see. Just shows you how insane these studios have become about press screenings.

jeez, A Modest Proposal, really? How pretentious. Sounds like someone just got their MFA.

That's Macross, you heathern!
I think there's been more than one live action Japanese version of this. Thing about the show is, the ship is really the star (at least in the orig Japanese). The Yamato was so revered culturally by that generation, can't see how this will retain any meaning in a US translation, except if

it might have if it was of Japanese origin. Try Speed Racer for your punchline.

khaaan
Khan = Harvey of course.
