Not really. He says that the reason it’s being published is because Foos finally gave him permission after 30+ years. Then he theorizes that perhaps why Foos gives permission is because of statute of limitations.
I think it’s pretty obvious from the article that Talese had essentially zero respect for Foos as a “researcher.” He clearly paints him as a disturbed obsessive, someone who is using the veneer of “research” to paint over his guilt or discomfort with his own perversion.
