I think the last restriction I heard of was in 2014 of DigitalGlobe’s imaging satellite which had a resolution of 25 cm per pixel. Took a while for them but they eventually got government to allow them to distribute those images.

I don’t know how it compares to the Nook (I haven’t used one before) but the Kindle has support for OverDrive.
