The R murders much higher priced cars on track and is significantly easier to drive at the limit than say a high power RWD car. 40k is a lot of money to spend on a car, but the Golf R is a bargain for what you get.

Meanwhile, the GTI is a nice hot hatch, but it can’t step up into the big leagues the way a modified R…
