I agree, on my test drive I didn’t notice any issues either. But after living with it for a while, it disappoints. Probably doesn’t help that the weak sauce clutch started slipping at stage 1 power...

One thing I really like about the R is how short the gearing is, and I think that’s true DSG or Stick. I feel like a short geared 400hp golf R would need a DSG especially since it’s not a particularly quick shifting manual (clutch delay)

Short Shifter, Heavier shift knob, spring removal, taller clutch stop, shifter bushings. etc etc etc. I still think it’s a meh sandwich. Also, you shouldn’t have to do all that stuff to get a “decent” shifter in a hot hatch.

Muscle cars that weigh the better part of 4000 lbs though. I much prefer 400hp/3300lbs to 500hp/4000lbs.
