I actually just assumed they would make you fill out some sort of paperwork, because bureaucracy. I’m going to look it up to see, now.

That is honestly one of my worst fears. It must be so bizarre for women that happens to, even if you’re at a point in your life where you already have kids and you’re okay with having more kids.
But yeah, it totally does happen. It’s crazy.
It does happen, though. That’s why there was a whole show about it. I mentioned this upthread; the sister of a friend of mine gave birth in their bathroom at home. She never knew she was pregnant, and no one else did either. She didn’t gain weight in a typical “pregnancy” way, and she spotted throughout her pregnancy…
Do we even know if she knew she was pregnant? If she didn’t know if she was pregnant, she didn’t know to get an abortion... and she may have gone into a shock like state after giving birth. I’m not defending her actions, I just don’t think we really have enough info to even be discussing what options she had at this…
Sooo actually, I don’t know what she looks like, but if she was already heavy they really may not have (depending on how she carried).
My friend’s sister gave birth in their bathroom. She never knew she was pregnant until she went into labor, and neither did anyone else. (She kept the baby, though.)
I’ve never heard of Project Cuddle before and I’ve got to say, that’s an awesome name.
This one is a good resource: http://paleoleap.com/paleo-guide-to… The site obviously isn’t impartial, but in the text of the article they link to a lot of legit sources and studies.

Thank you! That actually sounds really really tasty.
I’m pretty sure cats are actually smarter than toddlers. Or at least better equipped to deal with the outside world. (I like cats much more than I like toddlers and this is purely speculation and personal bias.)
We had one indoor/outdoor cat growing up. He was pretty sad when he got too old to go outside and we made…
Well I’m not an impartial scientist, but maybe someone will respond to you who is better educated in these issues than I am.
TNR probably isn’t likely to work based on what you’re showing me, but this plan doesn’t really seem any better. :\
Is that what they’re doing? A multidimensional approach? I’m trying to find out what the actual plan entails and having trouble. It looks like, from what I’m seeing, it primarily focuses on simply eradicating feral cats. Which makes it pointless.
Can you show me any data that shows that wiping out rat populations has like, actually worked? Because I know that rats are still a serious problem with most cities in the US, and extermination hasn’t really seemed to make any sort of dent in the population.
Huh, that’s interesting. I’ll be curious to see how that works out.
My cat is a little chubby too. I try to get her to play, and she’ll do it for like five minutes and then lose interest, no matter what toy I use. She just doesn’t really seem to be into the hunting thing at all. She’s not fat enough for me to be concerned about it, but it’s still sucky. She has arthritis in one of her…

I basically already responded to that argument and I don’t feel like retyping shit.
Yeah, but just because popular opinion is behind it doesn’t mean it’s right. There’s a pretty strong debate about it in the US, too - cat owners who allow their cats to go outside understandably don’t like being told that they’re endangering their pet. Makes them feel like bad cat parents and feel attacked. I would…
I stole this from je suis cocopop upthread because I’m a thief (and why find your own source when someone already posted a good one, anyway).
Right, it temporarily puts a bandage on the problem. Temporarily, it will lower the numbers of wildlife that gets destroyed. But long term, the feral cat colonies will grow back up, and they’ll either have to kill large amounts of them again or they’ll have to find another solution.
If they’re going to do something a…
That’s not actually true. Outdoor cats have shorter lifespans overall, to begin with. They’re more at risk from predators and injury. So even if you ignore the possible damage to the ecosystem, it’s not good for your cat who you are responsible for.
And 1 outdoor cat doesn’t do that much damage to the local ecosystem…
I said this upthread (downthread? sidewaysthread? kinja, man), but she’s right. In the long term, this program will do literally nothing. The cats will breed, the numbers will go back up. A trap-neuter-release program would be far more effective in the long term.
