I think what you’re missing here, Jason, is that Full Self Driving has always been advertised to simply mean that the vehicle always provides the motive force for itself - it provides its own drive, if you will. It’s cheaper to only design an auto than to design an auto and a manual. Designing only a manual isn’t an option.
And even if their variation is too great and cars too leaky to find it those ways...the severity of failure here is great enough that you find a way to test it. Bond tests are a thing.
Give them a break, they’ve only been building cars for 10 years now. How were they supposed to know that the roof needs to be attached to the car?
That and convenience - we got a Baby Jogger partly because it had the best in-system stroller, but it can also hold a 32" tall, 35lb toddler, ostensibly letting you skip a rear-facing toddler seat.
I think there’s a lever below the dash that does it already.
Should be noted that at constant speed, a hybrid doesn’t do anything for you except let you get away with a smaller engine that’s more efficient under those conditions. It’ll get slightly better mileage than the 3.5L EcoBoost because it loses the intake/exhaust restrictions from the turbo, but that’ll be it.
It’s because they’re valued as if they’re going to keep doubling sales for the next 10 years, and there was nothing in the presentation that supported that.
