It's about safety and upholding immigration laws and respecting tradition. All those disgusting traditions.

Oh yes they do. Because many, even most, "actual racists" deeply and fundamentally believe that they aren't "real racists" and that people who don't, say, use racial slurs are "just like them" and just better at hiding their terrible behavior.
No, because acting like racism is a minor, understandable, and forgivable pecadillo is a big part of why Republicans win again and again.
That's the thing. So many people seem to believe that people who don't use racial slurs are either: (1) practicing heroic self-restraint or (2) horrible fakers who just don't get "caught" using them. When, in reality, tons of people will go their whole lives never once even wanting to use a slur.
I suspect that's because shared religious faith easily unifies people into a cohesive blocks whereas lack of faith doesn't generally do that. I mean even atheistic ideologies (like communism) were unified by the ideology - the atheism is a feature not the rallying cry.
I think that's the point at the end of the article.
The number is from Pew (2.2 billion). But as there are less than 20 million mormons in the entire world, I doubt it matters either way.
Honestly, the super ancient stuff is almost more understandable - the science is challenging to understand. But what about human settlements that are clearly more than 6,000 years old?
The evangelicals of the 19th century wouldn't be even able to recognize the ones today. They'd probably be considered godless liberals now, what with their "educate poor people for free" and "don't send everyone to prison" stances.
Probably thinks they drowned in the flood. The flood explains a lot in creationist circles.
If you're just going by Christianity as a whole, it does have the most subscribers worldwide at around 2 billion.
Oh certainly. Basically the toadies to the men's bullies.
I think Suicide Squad was the last beam movie. Was there one since then? Maybe we're due?
Weirdly topical given that a theme in the book is "America is a nation of immigrants."
Exactly. You put yourself at the mercy of one man to avoid being at the mercy of all men. You also have to vociferously hate "bad" women to prove your "goodness." And it's a model that's common in oppressive contexts. E.g. Prisons that use favored prisoners as informal "enforcers."
I suspect it's a pesto she made in conjunction with other food at the restaurant.
I don't really like the idea of putting so much opprobrium on the women as the "real" villains. Because I think it ignores an important fact - every woman in the show is a man's whim away from being abused. All their power is given on sufferance and can be withdrawn just as easily. They are cruel and blinkered but…
You realize that they weren't obligated to end the episode right after Albert's line right? There are tons of ways to avoid that kind of cut. Plus this series is beautifully directed and edited (and sound-mixed and cast and honestly everything). No need to get so defensive over a tiny imperfection. And hey. Maybe…
Pure malice. "You're famous and successful, but it doesn't matter because I can make you feel small and scared."
I won't discount the possibility that they went after the bicycle guy because they could give him a hefty ticket…
