But are very many of his characters "strong and stable"? That doesn't really break on gender lines. For me the petite woman thing annoyed because he presented it as standing up for women ("I'm tired of the sexy women stereotypes!") but at least partly was just catering to his own preferences on what is appealing. I

It was a big part of Buffy and also his X-men stuff. Not the only thing that he's known for but certainly part of his public image. I'm not super into him either, but reading the letter and now this, I'm not seeing the connection between "cheating husband" and "not a feminist".

I think Whedon definitely had feminism as part of his "brand." That said, this seems weirdly unconnected to me. I'm willing to believe he is/was a terrible husband, I just don't see how it does or doesn't show that his work is feminist.

I'm not really on board with this article or his ex-wife's letter (I'm not clear on how his cheating undermines the feminism of his work), but if a piece of art purports to be feminist, as Whedon's work does, then in makes sense to view it through a feminist lens. Just like how I would ask if a piece of art was

Seattle hipsters don't add syrups and flavoring. It's all about showing off how little adulteration you need in your coffee.

I have family there so I come out from the city a lot. If you get the chance and haven't yet, the little day hikes around Tiger Mountain are fantastic. Beautiful and sort of left over from when Issaquah and the area around was a lot smaller and less developed.

Issaquah used to be super Twin Peaks-y but now it's super suburban. It's still pretty there at least.

I don't know. But the solution to that wrong is not declaring that no one is allowed graves. Even Nazis have graves despite their numerous victims who lack them.

I mean that famine which almost starved all of Russia to death for one? Because he and his followers didn't understand that seed grain was a thing.

Ew. What are we going to do with these bodies? Drag them through the streets? Being guilty of treason doesn't render you undeserving of burial. We don't do that to anyone.

Before you were obligated to preface every comment about her with the caveat that you don't like her, but respect her for her performance during the trial.

They didn't know they had a crowd pleaser though. The success came as a surprise. Which makes me think that the WB does not understand superheroes and their appeal. Like, at all. So they'd better keep the one director they stumbled across who does.

I prefer living in power blocs with ready access to pineapples though, so I choose the US!

El Condor Pasa

I've seen some of the monuments in Germany. They are mostly in cemeteries and they are not glorious equestrian statues extolling the heroism of the defeated Wehrmacht.

Then what did you say? Because, darling, that's definitely what it sounded like you were saying.

Well said.

So intelligent people can be bigots but not homophobic? Why? What's the difference? And what information do we have now about homosexuality that we didn't have, say, 30 years ago?

I mean optics matter. They aren't the only thing that matters but some of the power of the presidency is people's desire to be seen with you. The cache. Ruining that is losing power.
