A lot of land populated by whiney, racist, penurious people and their victims?
I prefer a giant statue of Sherman with his boot on their neck.
Yup. That's why you announce that place is dangerously out of date (ten minutes a way from a robot uprising) and needs to be rebuilt from the top down.
I highly doubt there are many people who care deeply about a hundred year old plaque commemorating a bunch of dead guys from 150 years ago who aren't racists.
Municipalities are part of our larger society. If they insist on behaving like repulsive racists, then they are going to get called on it.
Oh he's definitely racist. Too narcissistic to have an idealology but racist to the core.
Do you mean the monuments to the Confederate dead? Those belong in cemeteries not on street corners. Cemeteries don't have to differentiate between the traitorous and non-traitorous.
I think it's time for them to announce a radical refurbishment project that takes years to finish. Too bad they have to close it but Disney demands quality!
It's possible, I just think it's unlikely. Germany didn't actually want the Rhineland back so much as want their pride back. It was more than lost territory, it was reparations and humiliation. And that could only happen with France being forced to crawl.
There is no way France wouldn't have been attacked. Germany was racked with bitterness over the Treaty of Versailles and WWI. They made the French sign the terms in the same train car Versailles was signed in and then blew up the car.
Yes I think people waving Nazi flags, shouting Nazi slogans, and espousing anti-semetic views are Nazis. What would you call them instead? Nazi fans?
You believe that it's impossible for someone to be both intelligent and bigoted? That seems like an enormous assumption to make. Unless 100 years ago, there were almost no intelligent people?
Nah. I think it's the usual "I'm pretending to be a leftist so you have to listen to my dumb argument" troll tactics.
Are you sure David Duke will? Because I'm not. Plenty of racists die confident in the righteousness of their evil cause.
Yeah. Like I said, I saw the German cemeteries and I was pretty impressed. They were full of sorrow at the loss of young life and suitable for grieving parents and children, but there was no hint of glory or honor.
We've been mostly practicing quiet persuasion since the war ended and it got us Jim Crow and the KKK. Maybe it's time to accept that the South doesn't "deserve" those symbols if that's what they are going to do with them.
All? I'm pretty sure some of them were awful. And, as I noted above, how many of them wouldn't have bought slaves if they had come into money? Any at all?
Yeah. I mean how many of those poor kids would have immediately gone out and bought slaves if they'd come into money? Most of them? All of them?
Ah yes. The old "this perfume could have been sold and the money given to the poor" thing. That was dumb when Judas said it and it's dumb now.
