Thanks! About three hours. They’re putting me and my dad (road trip buddy! Navigator!) up in a hotel for the night before.

Kudos on giving yourself a chance to relax, then!! Happy fuzzy-watching!!

Well, that sucks! Sorry about that!

Although, I also went grocery shopping, mopped the kitchen and the bathroom, cleaned the bathroom, did a load of wash and made this week’s lunches.

Congrats on becoming tenure-track! This is more a student services gig than a faculty gig, so I’m not quite there yet. Thanks for the good vibes!!

I love how Voldemort’s fear/hatred of death is bound up in how his mother chose to die than to stay with him. I can’t recall if the movie includes the line about how she couldn’t have been magic or she wouldn’t have died, but getting to see Merope’s life would have, as you said, made him less one-dimensional and more

Congrats!! My apologies if you’ve tried this already or it’s really obvious, but I would hope your community college can do your transcripts online, rather than you having to go in person to request them.

Thanks!! I hope you were successful!

The animation reminds me of Tim Burton mixed with the silhouette drawings of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza.

I don’t know if we’re supposed to assume that they just rebuilt it through magic (as it’s around for the beginning of 7.1, no problem), but if that’s true, then why be upset about it? Nobody gets hurt, there are no repercussions. It’s just...special effects? Ugh all over.

I understand the need to cut lots of stuff

Many thanks!!

The burning down of the Burrow is just so. useless. I really don’t know what they thought they were adding to the story, other than that Harry and Ginny like each other a lot, which we’d been told, if not shown, often enough to get the point across.
Weirdly, the thing about Movie 6 that bums me out the most is that

I have a second-round job interview (campus visit) a week from today, complete with giving a presentation! I’ve never had a job interview this serious before! I’m working on the presentation now while watching LOTR and eating discounted Christmas candy (Reese’s Trees, nom). Happy New Year, all!!

This was true up until a point. I’m too tired to parse the wikipedia article carefully, but originally it was the runner-up.

My brother told me that “fly-fishing” was when you rented a helicopter and flew over a river with your fishing line hanging down from the helicopter into the river.

All right, I’ll stop complaining if it’s because I’m seeing fewer ads. I have to be really careful reading Wonkette (for BCO) at work now because the ads are a lot naked-er than here.

Maybe it’s because I have ad-block, but on the main page, the beginning of the story doesn’t extend as far to the right as the image, and it’s driving me nutty. I’m pretty stupid in terms of visual design, but it’s super annoying. Is this happening to anybody else?

I drive past the lake forest oasis four times a week; I will think of you now :-)

Independence Day 2: This Time it’s in Space

Woooow, I read through the dirt bag and read “Michael Cera” instead of “John Cena.” There aren’t a lot of stories where those two could be interchangeable, but apparently this is it.
