I don't think that is an excuse for repeating something that isn't proven, has a statement from the shop owner against it, and was used by the Police Dept as an obvious derailing tactic. It's not helpful for what is happening in Ferguson.

Exactly. I live in Canada, in a super safe and quiet area on an island. You live here and won't let your kid walk two blocks to school? WTF?!

Gotta say I'm in the independance side. I let my little one go and play on her own, and have since she was 7. I give her 'check-in' times, which means she has to come home and update me with who/what/where, but other than that she's good to go.

Sorry but it is not fine for everyone, which was my point. It can be a depressant - I've experienced it directly through people around me.
