That’s one of my favorite jokes!!
That’s one of my favorite jokes!!
Two more things — go on forums first and look up problem areas/years to avoid on your car(s) of choice and two, KBB trade-in value for the car you want is pretty standard good price for whatever car you decide to buy at an auction :)
I loved it when I used to go to auctions. Recently (as of about a year or so ago), car prices got a bit ridiculous and with auction fees, you didn’t come out too far ahead of used car prices unless you were buying luxury cars (in which case you still had to have at least $20k cash with you) so it was a bit…
That (2JZ swap) would be the best of both worlds!!
I should also point out that only certain trim levels of the Jetta get this sentiment for me. I tried out a base model and absolutely hated sitting in the car itself. In that case, the Civic is a million times better in my eyes.
I can understand that line of reasoning. I guess you’re right. What I was attempting to get at was that on paper, they’re “similar” vehicles and the Civic would probably even shine more but in real life, at least to me in my current situation, the Jetta is worth the premium.
I do think that if you keep them for around 25k miles you will think they are the best cars to ever graze this planet, however, so that’s something. I guess you’re onto something with your theory, after all! Haha.
Eh, to an extent you’re right but I did leave out a couple little details that should help. Both cars are 2011s and hers is completely stock. Her engine has developed bad oil leaks twice, needed new wheel bearings, needed rear brake pads replaced at 50k miles (she’s a stereotypical “grandma” driver), had issues with…
So, you might disagree on my car choices (and that’s ok) but I’ll explain why I decided to buy what I did for my wife:
We went out about a year ago and purchased a 2016 Jetta SEL for her. Regardless of the good deal we got on the car, MSRP is either $26.5k or $27.5k and I would gladly pay that for hers versus a…
I’m in southcentral PA and even I follow the 99.1 JOY! drivers Facebook group! Funny stuff on there!
I love that Sienna <3 I drove one at an auto show and all my friends think I’m kidding when I tell them my dream garage does in fact include a van. It includes *that* van.
Completely agree! Cars were meant to be driven. I love detailing and enjoy super clean cars but I always felt that if you never take them out to the street, you just bought art that you have to maintain more than normal :)
That would be pretty cool! Hopefully that’s what happens. The DSG has come a long way from the…
I don’t agree with people feeling like any landlord that doesn’t let you destroy the place as you please is an “asshole” but your story about the fence is insane. Those sorts of places make me insane.
That’s what I always understood as well but I wasn’t sure if maybe this was a special case and perhaps that’s why HIIMrMeSEEKS said what he did.
That’s what I figured but I can’t understand why they would only drop it $2k if it’s supposed to be $5k minimum from VW (unless that’s only on certain cars like the Golf or Touareg)...
Also, I am a huge advocate for maintenance and doing preemptive fixes. I drive my car as often as I can (just about daily with the exception of a vacation or two a year)!
I might have phrased my response poorly so I will try again. These cars haven’t been moved (much, perhaps turned on a couple times and moved to a different part of the lot and onto a truck in some cases) in at least a year and a half and that is the part that scares me about a DSG in these particular cars alone. I…
Autotrader, I believe.
I don’t believe so. Always thought they’d still come with a warranty because even if it had started back in September of 2015 (it wouldn’t have), you’d still have close to 1.5 years and 36,000 miles left :)
DSGs can be a bit finicky if never driven and the fluid isn’t changed so personally, I would want a manual for that reason alone. No, I don’t believe it’s worth a $5k difference though.
