Berlin a Warsaw En Un Tanque!

I stand corrected! Thanks for that bit of info. What do they do to the roads instead when they do try to prepare for snow??

Completely agreed.

Regarding the torque, that’s the most fun thing about driving these over driving a Civic Si even though technically, the Civic is supposed to be faster. It doesn’t actually have the presence and the collectedness these have on the road. They just feel more well-put together. It’s hard to put in

I’m not saying I disagree with you regarding budgeting but I think it’s fair to point out that the road conditions in Texas are hard to compare to road conditions in Oregon. Winter is much harsher in Oregon and if it snows, they have to salt the roads which I have never heard of in Texas. The weather in Oregon just

I’m learning about a whole ‘nother side of Tom.

I have to ask. What’s with the screenname? haha

Bard of the Yard.

Haha, I totally get that. I almost bought a TDI a couple years ago but couldn’t justify the cost of a third car and I like my GTI too much to give it up.

About being mad, I think we become enamored with certain things/people in life and cut them some more slack than they perhaps deserve. I’m asthmatic and should

It was a joke...

Big VW fan here, really hoping they changed their ways or they’d have to be one of the dumbest-run companies in the world.

They’re not exactly known for following the rules to a tee at present-time... Hahaha.

Sooo... I take it you don’t particularly like Alabama? Haha

I believe he was only stating the country of origin for the brand, not where they stand in said country or where most of their sales come from.

DSGs aren’t having the issues they had at launch. For the most part, they seem to be pretty solid now from what I’ve seen. Also, CVTs are kind of hit or miss and seems to be dependent on the manufacturer. Haven’t really heard any issues from Honda but Nissan still seems to make them from gum and rubber bands.

Completely agree. I still think it’s crap that infotainment systems are considered on par with catastrophic engine failure... can’t take this seriously without those being separate or without, like you said, an explanation for the results.

Yeah, that’s totally true. I tuned the GTI and while it’s a blast now, I do miss pushing it a bit more sometimes. Now, I still can but not if I want to avoid massive fines and jail time... I wish I had the money for autox and the lack of anxiety of stuff breaking (I drive a decent amount so mine’s at 116,000 miles in

Haha, see, that’s fine, it’s just not *my* thing. I feel like I’d still have more fun bombing around in a Ferrari for the 3 seconds I legally can. Those few moments thrill me and I look forward to them (which might explain why my wife hates me... haha, kidding!) more than wringing out a car for super long.

Hahaha, I’m

That’s completely fair. I, for one, enjoy fast cars with grip (and boy, does the WRX grip well) regardless of them being a bit chunkier. It had quick-enough steering for me without being too fidgety when I drove one but I totally get someone wanting something that’s even more go-karty. Didn’t know about the 63/37

I’m sure it’s fine. I’m not saying your car is slow but the way I envisioned his/her comment was that if there is a small gap up ahead and they wanted to speed up to get in the gap, you need a car that isn’t just fine in traffic but much quicker than traffic.

I am sorry if I poorly stated my comment but I meant

Haha, I was surprised too, actually. They all have different purposes so to each their own, I suppose.

I do too much stuff in my car to have one car that can’t function as a people carrier/grocery-getter from time to time while still being fun on the highway and in the mountains.

Yes, RWD is just about it. I suppose if

From the torque curves I’ve seen, it seems like you’d be in the middle of that drop in power. I doubt it accelerates very quickly which is kind of sad for my personal use. I drive mostly highway so high-revving and late horsepower are not what I consider fun. Meaty powerband that has most of its power from around 2500

Sorry, while one can make the case that none are lightweight RWD cars, they can actually mostly be had for *less* than the 86. I was surprised to see that MSRP for a base 86 is $27,000. Base GTIs come out to around $26,000 with no discounts (and they’re currently doing a lot — plenty of new ones for around $22-23k.
