I’m glad it’s not just me!  I really bought into the whole soothing (or at least not disturbing) motion thing and basically it’s all lies and fabrications.  I’d rather take a goddamn North Sea ferry.  But at least now I know for myself, so that’s something.

That sounds lovely! The ones I’ve been on didn’t have anything like a sightseeing car or longer stops. It’s just an overnight way of getting from a to b. Yours sounds much more touristy (in the best way) and pleasant!

The nightjet picks people up throughout the night, so you don’t get so much the side to side gentle wobble of a cruiser as the start and go jolt. I don’t know how it is on the Caledonian though, but glad you had a better experience.

Yeah, like if you want to try for yourself (as I did), then it can be a lark.  But the novelty wears off pretty quickly!

It’s not restful sleep, so you’re definitely not missing out.  The thing is the nightjet picks up passengers overnight, so it’s pretty stop and go.  It’s manageable for one night, but not so restful to want it as a proxy for hotels.
