I’m cracking up that Syfy is like “You know what this book needed? Long, boring romantic subplots. And fewer aliens.”

They’re certainly going out of their way to make them act as suspicious and sinister as possible. And they throw all that religious conflict in there; in the book they wait until humanity discards religion to make an appearance. For obvious reasons.

Yeah I mean ... it’s all paranormal teen romance-y in the first one, but then it goes all off the rails. And I had no idea where the last book was going until I got there.

Hah that one is one of the worst for chapters of “wtf is going on??” Two parallel stories about totally different things that don’t connect until a good halfway through the book. It’s really good, though!

My daughter’s half-Mexican so she’s got that olive tone. She’s as fair as me most of the time, but get her in some sun and she browns right up. She’s only ever had a sunburn once in her life, the little shit.

I mean, I kind of like the idea of a baby-scented candle but that makes more sense.

I worked as a PA for a real estate agent in a high-priced area, and he’d by these super expensive $60 candles to burn at open houses. They smelled good, and he sold a lot of homes, so I guess it was a good business investment.

Okay this isn’t “Babies”, right? What the hell is it?

I have never laughed and gagged at the same time, so congratulations.

Space alien?

Several of the “characters” are actual spaceships controlled by AI, so yeah, there’s a lot of “in space” happening. I loved it, though. The “in space” is almost a red herring, because it’s an exploration of gender and identity wrapped in a space opera.

I think it’s Robert Galbraith, isn’t it? Anyway, yeah I totally enjoy those books. The characters are vastly entertaining even when the plot isn’t quite making sense.

Oooh, you know what else is published as YA, but was a really good read? The Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy. The ending was nowhere near what I was expecting.

Oh my gosh, yes to Among Others! Another book that makes me cry all the tears.

Passage does it for me. “All ships sink, sooner or later.”

It was the only beauty blog I ever enjoyed, because it never assumed that we all owned and knew how to use 400 different cosmetic products. I am so bereft.

I was typing a rhapsodic recommendation of Anne Leckie’s Ancillary Justice, and then I realized you said NOT in space. But Sheri S. Tepper has some amazing feminist dystopia novels. The Gate To Women’s Country and Gibbon’s Decline and Fall are a couple of my favorite books ever.

I actually hated my last name growing up. No one ever spelled or pronounced it right, and it wasn’t even a complicated name - it was spelled pretty much phonetically. So when I got married I was happy to change it to his more common and easily spelled name.

I actually thought the Stormtroopers were robots at first too, when the movie first came out. Which left me a little confused as to how Han and Luke wear the robots. In my defense, I was 4 years old in 1977.

Zara is fast fashion? I went into one for the first time yesterday and the first filmy, flimsy chiffon blouse I saw was $50. There is literally a Forever 21 two doors down the mall if I want see-thru clothing.
