I had the flat 6 Cayman.  The sound was cool but 95% of the time driving the neighborhood you couldn't run it up to get the benefit.  Now with the 718 I zip around in sport mode with better torque curve, higher HP and no turbo lag. And I like the burps and gurgle the 718 has but the old Cayman didn't

This idea that the 4t doesn't sound great is just one in a long line of silly Porsche purist speak. Short of sound (subjective) this 4 cylinder outperforms the flat 6 by any objective measure. The decision to go back to the 6 (but only for the top end models) is just Porsche taking proper advantage of those people

I have been saying that too. I was looking for a G37 replacement back in 2017. I drove an S6 a couple of times, many twisty roads, and came away highly disappointed.

I had the same experience in the base Macan, too. I think it has something to do with the steering (great) and the decreased weight in the nose because of the smaller engine. It just feels so much more agile than competitive crossovers—and the higher-trim Macan models as well.
