I don't think anyone's blaming South Park for anything. What people are saying, though, is that it provided a road map for certain kinds of behaviors and perspectives. If I'm an unhappy asshole who is sick of people telling me about my "White, hetero, cis male privilege" Eric Cartman and company gave me a good ideal

Do you watch South Park? It skewers liberalism far more than it does conservatism. What conservative wouldn't like that?

That certainly applies to Thor and Star-Lord (at least in the first GotG) and arguably Ant-Man. Captain America may not be a douchebag, but it's the same general arc: he's right, everyone else is wrong, and, after suffering a set-back, he continues to insist he's right, only with more conviction and in the end he is

Those are my two favorite aspects of that movie. I didn't care for the rest. But Spidey and Ant's presence were pretty enjoyable.

Brash, cocky, smarmy jackass hero rubs people the wrong way because he's brash, cocky and smarmy. Brash, cocky, smarmy jackass hero continues to do all the things people hate him for, except now he does it after he's had a minor setback. Now he's a brash, cocky, smarmy jackass hero who people like even though he's the

Nah, the issue is in never really getting a true ending. And not only no real ending, but the obligation to watch other stories outside of the story you're watching to really get to the ending, at some point. Like, I don't like Thor as a character and I haven't enjoyed the movies. But, like, I guess I'm still supposed

I generally agree with your sentiment. But every superhero movie this year so far has been legitimately great. They all have their own tone and themes and perspectives. Spider-Man would've been a stone classic if not for the need to fit it into Stark's universe, though.

You know, it was a bit clumsy in its execution (shitty early 90s rap, anyone?), but it's not the travesty everyone acts like it was. Although I enjoy Rocky IV a lot more, Rocky is probably a better-made movie.

Yeah, but without Rocky V that callback line when Rocky tells Robert "Home team, remember?" doesn't make any sense.

Basically he just doesn't want to pay taxes then?

I don't know. It was mostly a throwaway joke that touched a nerve for some. I mean, I guess so. I personally don't know a lot of non-white people who are big on it. And I live in Colorado where "backpacking" is pretty common thing.

Hey man, nobody has the charmless, witless, puerile white hipster writing style down more pat than Shea Serrano, who's Chicano. (Most of the time. When he's being genuine about something, he's actually pretty good).

I'm making the assumption that an American with the financial means to both attend college and take a whole summer to backpack through a foreign country = white. Even if I'm a dick, you have to agree that the odds were certainly in my favor.

Well, that and games of ultimate frisbee on the college green….

Damn. Owned.

"The summer before junior year in college. The last week of two months backpacking across Europe. Some tapas bar in Madrid. A chilled gazpacho in the sweltering heat. Tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, garlic, and smoked paprika, blended into an orange color I’ve never before seen in soup form. One sip, and the word

I felt like something was missing through the movie (I liked it, a lot, fwiw). It almost felt like a sequel where I missed the first movie. In retrospect I wonder how much of that feeling was linked to Uncle Ben's total absence and therefore having the foundation of Spider-Man's ethos missing.

What the hell is wrong with your friends?

I'm a TFA defender to the end. But there's no defending that decision. I avoided all info/spoilers on that movie and when Yayan and Iko showed up I figured we were finally going to get some actual badass violent martial arts in our Star Wars. And then…

Well, I think if Lucas had been a better storyteller and we had actually felt the full weight of Vader's turn to the dark side and the pursuant two-friends-fighting-each-other-to-the-death moment, I think the scene could've not only sustained its length, but could've benefited from it. Also, as the other poster
