Hi Kotaku Staff, here is a question I have been thinking about for a while.

The amount of writers that are celebrating 10 Things and publishing their thoughts that mirror my own about the film is, just... I know you can be overwhelmed, and you can be underwhelmed, but can you ever just be whelmed?

These two things are not mutually exclusive! I would even go so far as to say nearly every depiction of a modern mid life crisis is rooted in privilege that person experiences.  

By no means am I saying that this type of story is well-represented in media today, but isn’t Eat Pray Love the standard for female mid-life crisis? That’s the first thing I thought of anyway.

Olivia Colman gave the platonic ideal of a Best Actress speech. How is that not on here.

This book is bad because it doesn’t use quotation marks. That is to say, the author knows how to use them because sometimes they show up to indicate specificity or emphasis, but they are never used to mark when someone is talking. It gets confusing.

If you dig Roupenian’s writing and subject matter, I highly recommend Alice Sola Kim. Check out “Now Wait for This Week” which went up yesterday on The Cut.
