I just started getting into investing. Got a brokerage account, upped my 401k, started kids 529, moving towards better online saving interest rates, etc. Wife and I expect a large return this year. And will probably do it again next year. But in 2019, we will definitely adjust our withholdings to get this lower.

If you’re getting $3000 in a refund at the end of the year, it means you just lost a year of investment gains. Or if you carried debt for that time, it means you paid interest for a few extra months.

This. Whoever is getting multiple thousands back needs to adjust their withholding and stop giving the government an interest free loan every year.

Option 6: Recalculate your W4 and file with your employer so that next year’s refund is as close to $0 as possible, so that you’re not giving the government an interest free loan every year.

I went credit only for a while but then I went back to carrying some cash. The reason is simple, so I can pay in cash at local stores. Small local stores and restaurants are really helped out if you pay cash as they don’t have to pay visa their cut of the bill. At a big box store or fast food place, I’m not worried

Or yet another view point - advocate to get rid of the fucked up tipping system. It’s ridiculous, inconvenient and unfair. People shouldn’t rely on the generosity of others to make ends meet. And customers shouldn’t be thinking “well this costs $100. Then it’s plus sales tax + 9.765%, then it’s plus tip of x%

I didn’t read the article because I don’t care about fancy diets, but what the fuck is that gorgeous chunk of wonder meat in the picture? I wanna eat it and marry the leftovers.

YOU LIVE IN LONDON AND GOT MARRIED IN NAPA AND EXPECTED ALL YOUR FRIENDS TO GO.

At my stage in my career, I’m essentially a guru. Not only is having others ask my opinion flattering, it’s what I do for a living.

“For one, he notes, what does the brain-pickee get out of this?”

Heartily disagree. When people ask to pick my brain on a subject, it makes me feel as though:

Nice use of HDR in the photo.

Remember, rates always increase, no matter what law is on the books, because medical care gets more expensive all the damn time, and we have zero checks and balances on that.

Lot’s of libraries will have free glasses. Look at the map here, and find out what libraries are participating.

I agree with you. It’s only money, and the tax man will work out a payment plan with you to get their money back.

is it possible that some of this would cause a market adjust and health CARE costs would come down? I feel like no attention is given to the cost of CARE and only focused on cost of INSURANCE. Prices wouldnt need to be so high if it didnt cost $300 dollars to get blood work done ETC

Probably the best thing I’ve made w/ my sousvide is cheddar stuffed bison burgers. They are absolutely phenomenal - actually one of the best meals I’ve ever cooked and so so so easy to do. I’ve never done any other kind of bison Sous Vide, and honestly i’ve never really gotten into cooking any kind of bison at home

I’m all for bison. However, with the recent wild animals (duck and alligator), I’m itching for more down this road. Bison is close, but how about venison or elk?

May I suggest: wild boar? My local butcher has been bringing in wild boar shoulder and I really want to smother it in something delicious, probably a barbeque rub, and sous vide it.

i’d have him say “Welcome to the Rock” when I got home for sure
