Of note, I think you find that a good percentage of the folks who gave up their FJC’s, did so for a 4Runner.
Just a hunch.

I’m 6 foot, and while it doesn’t bother me at all I’m actually closer to the ceiling that I realized due to the sunroof in my 4R. I also sit pretty upright FWIW.
I have this, and my brothers and I still play when we see each other on random holidays. It’s still great, and I can’t believe we didn’t lose it all as kids. We also have Battle Masters, which has held up nicely as well. I recently just taught my daughters to play and they enjoyed it too.
This may be one of the best things I’ve read on Kotaku in quite some time.
I am all about this project, thanks for writing it up! Can’t wait to see this move along. I love Corvairs.
Since I spend FAR more time on road as opposed to off, the comfort aspect of the Limited won out in the end.
I looked at it this way: It’s far easier to increase the off road capability of any 4r than it is to add the comfort features that come on the Limited.
This being said, you’re probably still going to spend way…
My wife wouldn’t drive the FJ either.
I love the TRD Pros, but I totally went mall crawler Limited. Still capable enough to get off the beaten path, but with the comfy bits in there too. I wasn’t kidding anyone anymore I guess. I’ve done some decent un-maintained fire roads and stuff like that in my Limited, and it…
Lol, I know. Toyota really just flaked on that truck hard at the end. Mine did have the correct wheels luckily. The ‘12 RRTTs didn’t get the sub, although they were supposed to according to the marketing materials.
Personally I enjoyed the color matched interior bits. Particularly the red and black steering wheel, but…
I dunno man, the RRTT is a looker and I don’t think the metallic red TRD Pro quite hits the mark. I sometimes still miss mine.
Disagree. 4Runner is appropriately valued due to it’s unique market position.
Ooohhhh... correct choice is correct.
This is very similar to how my wife and I operate. We developed this system when we were dating and living together, and when we got married we didn’t change it.
Money is very rarely something that causes an argument for us.
I’m confused. Are you implying that the jeeps are competition for the 4Runner, or are you just kidding? The question mark has me thrown off.
Yeah, but if you want that sunroof open, rear window down goodness, you’re getting the runner. Besides, who really wants to be seen in a Lexus anyway?
And roll down rear window. It’s just so good.
Actually, now that you have that amount saved take out a loan for the amount you’ve saved at a low rate and invest the saved amount in a fund or something with a higher average return than the loan you just took out.
Boom. New car AND free money.
If you know how to leverage your money, low interest loans on good cars at good rates are far from stupid.
Yes! I’ve had a pair of 02 2500 ‘Burbs over the years, and they were damn near indestructible. Thristy, but oh so tough. Great trucks, and honestly IMHO the last good Burbs.
I’ve since downsized into a smaller indestructible truck: A 4Runner.
These are just good cheap cars period. Around me you can pick up super clean ones for 1500 bucks all day long.
Indeed, GMT800 Burbs and Tahoes are damn near unkillable.
