This article has made me realize that despite playing DA:I twice through (once as a mage, and once as a rogue) to see the branching story lines, and mostly enjoying it, I don’t actually remember a goddamned thing that happened in that game.
This reads like the lyrics of that weird al song that is nothing but corporate buzzwords.
I think it started coming from MS announcing Smart Delivery on Xbox. Where you buy the game once and you have access to the best version for your console. A lot of other companies have jumped on the free next gen version but it does seem to optional even though MS made it sound like Smart Delivery had to be a free…
I mean I think the expectation just like the whole PS4 controller not working with PS5 games furor is coming from Microsoft adopting a policy that benefits gamers and making it seem like it could be the new normal but in the end there will always be greedy publishers who need to drain every last buck.
I don’t think other publishers that have offered next-gen upgrades for free are doing it out of the goodness of their hearts; I think they felt the best business decision was to offer the upgrade to drive sales of current games (and their DLC) now, as the specter of the new consoles in the fall threatens current game…
Even as someone that’s not bought it yet (and this certainly isn’t helping them) that’s what burns me. They’re hurting the very folks who supported them when it came out, at full price. That’s seriously biting the hand that feeds them...and the next time I see a new 505 game, I’ll keep that in mind.
They explored different options.. for making an extra buck out of their most loyal early customers.
“To bring Control to next generation consoles in any form, we had to make some difficult decisions and those came in the form of creating the simplified Control Ultimate Edition product plan we have today,” 505 Games wrote in its post. “We are sorry we couldn’t meet everyone’s expectations and we hope you will…
Xcloud and GeFroce NOW have been a life saver for all the months I had nothing to play on my Switch ($50 for Xcom2 and $60 for Xeno? good luck with that)
First off, props on trying to achieve a balanced lifestyle.
Nah. I think we still have at least two years with the Switch, besides maybe a “Pro” version a la the New 3DS.
And even past that.. I would think/hope Nintendo considers the Switch platform to be the new one moving forward for a decade+. So that the Switch 2, whenever it comes, is fully backwards compatible with…
He wasn’t talking about 4, he was talking about the trilogy remaster.
I feel like this is just a “trying too hard to come up with a hot-take on Kotaku” sort of article. I don’t have any major beef with Nintendo keeping tight lipped about the rest of the year, but I don’t see why the industry could or should be moving in a more secretive direction, it doesn’t really benefit anybody. Hype…
He said Metroid Prime Trilogy which I assume is a remastered bundle of the first three games playable on the Switch.
Assuming those interviews and reports from a few years back are accurate, both Pikmin 4 and Metroid Prime Trilogy have been done and waiting to be released for years now. They may not be Mario games, but if their schedule is indeed in a garbage heap due to COVID, they could easily have released either or both of those…
Counterpoint: Having things to look forward to gives people hope, even when those things are just some cool video games. This complete dearth of “hype” is really a dearth of news that could very easily indicate a dearth of actual games. There’s no real silver lining here that I can see.
I vehemently disagree with the sentiment of this article. The industry as a whole needs to become more transparent, not less; and during a time of great upheaval, it is always great to have something to look forward to.
Nintendo even tweeted out about the game a few hours after the Direct. Like, there seriously wasn’t a single trailer they could have put in there?
I don’t know why they make so many tiers and then give it away fro free to a bunch of people. I mean, I know - vertical integration to get you into their ecosystem - but it is still annoying and needlessly complicates things.
