I’m repeating things other people have said, but that scene where Elizabeth met the guy in Mexico was so good, especially the way the score perfectly turned into We Do What We’re Told (which then drowned out the speaker, but we don’t really need to hear him anyway). I listened to Peter Gabriel’s album So repeatedly

Wow, that’s great. I enjoy him and his face lines.

After looking through these comments, I have to say: Wow, a lot of people on my side of politics are really hostile to even listening to people they don’t agree with. It’s a good thing we’re right about everything!

It’s not like Roseanne has written this show all by herself to tell people what to believe. That would be a bad show no matter what views were put forth. This is a show about regular people whose political opinions are imperfect. It wouldn’t be much of a sitcom if every bit of dialogue were heavily researched to make

I don’t remember any card games in this episode. Maybe it’s in a different episode, or they shot the scene but decided not to use it.

Rewatching season 5 of The Americans. I’m still not enthused by this season and its relative lack of excitement (the advertisements with Philip and Elizabeth holding guns seem dishonest, and the propulsive opening sequence seems almost ironic at times) but I appreciate how well written and acted it is. I’m noticing

I’ve been listening to the Song By Song podcast, where two British guys talk about every Tom Waits song. John Hodgman was recently a guest, and he said that he was very troubled by the idea that Tom Waits might not be genuine. This was surprising to me; I’d never even considered that Tom Waits might be genuine.

No, you are mistaken, it is Rain Dogs.

This is one of my favorite etymologies. That’s right, I have favorite etymologies. Did you know that “nice” used to mean “stupid”?

I prefer Shop Talkerman.

“Never stop stopping”... finally, some advice I can take.

Marc Evan Jackson should be in everything.

No grade on this review? How mysterious.

I want to know more about the guy who ate light bulbs. Is that the last known photo of him?

I was confused by Dennis Perkins’s assertions that John Mulaney was messing with the cue cards, and now I’m not confused anymore! Hooray!

They missed an opportunity for a good joke: At the beginning of his appearance, Stefon refers to Colin and Michael as Connor and Percy. At the end, Stefon references the movie Call Me By Your Name so Colin calls Stefon Colin. He should’ve called him Connor! That would be a pretty obvious callback, right? This makes me

I think it’s good for him to talk about his troubles, but his “my pain is better than your pain” is really not helpful for other people with mental illness.

It was funny how the Arcade Fire members’ “sorries” sounded closer to American than the fake Canadians’.

I like Arcade Fire but I’d really like to stop hearing that song that’s about suicide. It’s just too depressing to enjoy... unlike Pete Davidson, who is just depressing enough to enjoy.

I didn’t watch the show much when Bill Hader was on so this was the first time I’d seen the sketch. I thought it was pretty funny. I guess I’m the perfect audience for it.
