My grandpa is 92, and in great health. He could easily live for another 10 years (or die tomorrow, who knows). He’s buried two wives, one with whom he was married for 35 years, the other 25. He’s buried his parents, in laws, every sibling, and every friend. I just can’t imagine how lonely it would get.

Similar to what I did. My mom never changed her last name, so her name is my middle name, my dad’s my last name. My last name is now my son’s middle name, and he has his father’s last name. Not the best solution probably, but as good as we could figure out.

My mom dind’t change her name when she married my dad. Apparently folks at the hospital (late 70s) were baffled by the fact that she was married but had a different name than my dads and kept calling her “miss”. One of my first nicknames was “Missy Girl” because of this.
