Not that anyone gets into teaching for the money but my salary was raised by 12000 when I changed from private to public. Now I’m making 25000 more per year than I would have been had I stayed in the private sector. That’s not chump change.

Just from the replies here I think schools in the US are a little different than in Canada. I’ve worked in many different elementary schools and wouldn’t call any of them “bad” like I’m reading in the comments here. Even schools in poorer areas often got extra funding and had great teachers.

Even then, I think it depends on your kid. An ambitious, hard-working child will thrive it most academic environments. I went to a big public high school, which really wasn’t fantastic. But once I got to university I wouldn’t say there was much difference between myself and students who went to fancy private schools.

Well I can see the value of private secondary school, I think that private primary school is a huge waste of money (in Canada, anyways).

This. After I had kids I was overwhelmed with worry over the millions of horrible things that could happen to these tiny, precious people. Even if you are religious, there are so many worse things that can happen to your child than being LGBT. If your child is healthy and happy, then count your fucking blessings.
