The guy that I linked to above is not a "random guy". He's a journalist for the website Breitbart, and he was also one of the people accusing Anita of fake threats. If the person accusing her of this did the research and said she was telling the truth, what more do you want?

Disagree. Audio cables, in general, do not have much of a difference, except for durability. The only problem that you will have with cheap 1/8" cables will be loose connections. Otherwise, it's entirely psychological. There's an entire audiophile component industry built around selling that bullshit.

Choosing cheap paint is a crap shoot. Compared with other materials, it's the least expensive part of a room remodel, so it makes little sense to save a few dollars when cheap paint could cost you days of extra labor to correct unnecessary runs or poor coverage and flow.
