I’m basing this off of historical reputation. Sure there is more tech, but it it’s pretty well know that German cars are almost always more complex, expensive and less reliable than pretty much any Japanese manufacturer.

No it’s not. In 10 years that BMW will likely be costing you thousands in maintenance and repairs while the Honda will likely be running circles around the shop the BMW is in.
