I wouldn’t call trying to hit the cartels as having guts. Dumb as hell and likely to end with your entire family brutally murdered, yes, but brave or guts, not a chance.
Also, even in the fiction Omar didn’t go after the fucking Mexican cartel stash houses, he hit the local crews instead. If Omar had gone after the cartel, he would have ended up tortured and killed in some horrific way.
I’m pretty surprised he even found some fool willing to join him on this suicide mission.
I understand.. a sort of unofficial détente between the “bad guys” and the “police” since its better to deal with the devil you know than the devil you don’t.
I hate to say it but the dude locked up on Murder 1 charges needs to strongly, strongly consider ending his own life in lockup... The cartel revenge will be ugly, slow, and far-reaching. Hoping his and the deceased relatives/loved ones are able to go in to hiding somehow, because the Sheriff is right for once. Shits…
Often there ends up with a stalemate of sorts where leaving bad guys who aren’t causing much trouble alone is better than a constant power vacuum of people trying to become the new supplier.
I remember hearing a story a couple years back.....
In support of this wisdom you posted, they emphasized REPEATEDLY throughout the show what a dangerous line of work Omar was in. You literally cannot take enough money to make robbing these folks worth your while. It really isn’t much different than robbing a bank, because even if you make the initial getaway, they’re…
This idea peaked at “Alright, here’s the plan...” and then immediately went downhill.
“Back then you probably had to leave town.”
The problem with thinking that you’re Omar is twofold:
We have this area here in South Florida called “the triangle”, very notorious for all the violence that was happening so often you can set your watch to it. And it went on for...well it goes on, the intensity works like the seasons.
And even though it was happening almost daily, you couldn’t find a cop for miles…
They know but are getting paid off or know that the cartel will fuck them up and their families and their kids.
We don’t know that the police weren’t aware of the stash house. They might have been planning a raid to hit multiple stash houses at once, or monitoring the place to try and track down higher-ups in the organization. Or it might have been a fairly new facility, and the coach lucked into finding out about it before the…
Messing with white women in your grandfather’s time had consequences that were much more severe than today. Now the worst is you might have to block her number. Back then you probably had to leave town.
The part that I’m laughing at is, even a HS coach knows where the bad guys are.. and yet... the police don’t?.. and arrest the coach and not the cartel?
But, was he shot from the three-point line?
He’s lucky he died in the shootout. Survivers typically only do so temporarily and their deaths are usually much more brutal. The cartel doesn't play. I doubt his friend will last long in prison.
