Maybe Erin knew about this in advance. She kept quiet about her upcoming day of bolting around an offroad course in the coolest SUV to come out in years, watching as David got ready to live in a ratty ass old van for a month.

You need to read the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy if you haven’t. It’ll take you an afternoon and it is well worth it.

People have been clamoring for a “rugged” small SUV from Ford since they turned the Escape into the Kuga. It blew my mind when I was selling Fords back then that people were coming in demanding the old one. Id talk them out of it by having the old Escape and the new one parked next to each other and telling them to

Prominently featured on the dash were a row of hand buttons for locking the front or rear differentials, or engage Trail Turn Assist”

You can bet your ass they designed something to compete next to the Blazer then some intelligent person stepped in.

Touch screens are dumb and dangerous for any functions of a car that are actively controlled while driving. Sure, bury settings in touch menus. But stereo volume, hvac (esp defrost), wipers, cruise, trasmission, blinker, lights, etc all need to be physical buttons that can be manipulated without looking.

Who knew muscle memory actually mattered?  We’ve only been training people on how to do this (with slight variations) for what, 100 years?

In before all the Tesla fanboys come and tell you how you are dumb, wrong, that windshield wiper controls in a touch screen are actually the best way to handle controlling them (because reasons), people who can’t figure it out are dumb, and you should bow before your new lord Elon Musk

Gordon Murray also thinks that touch screens in fast cars are dangerous, and one does not argue with that mustache.

The aftermarket has come through with a safari tops for various generation Wranglers

i think at this rate im seeing one every couple of days to and from work. ironic cause i live and work in Houston, where you dont much need that sort of capability. not until the next big storm comes through.... let me just check the weather.... shit.

I’m curious whether Jeep is happy with Gladiator sales. Obviously the pandemic is screwing up everything, but even before that the numbers were a bit anemic, from casual observation.

Rational Me:

The Wrangler is a license for FCA (excuse me, Stellantis) to print money. There’s a waiting list for used ones. It’s the 4 wheel counterpart to a Harley, a cosplaymobile (for most buyers, let’s be honest). The accessories the parts dept. can sell are more profitable than the whole Fiat lineup.

Question: Why does anyone prefer using a manual offroad?

I bet the sasquatch package will be $4,500 - $5,500.

If by some odd chance I were to buy one, I’d get the steelies and leave them.
