I lived in a town with a Salvation Army where you could work for 2 hours in return for 10 items of clothing. But even without that option, secondhand saves you sooo much money. I once had a temp job where for the first week, as soon as I got off work I’d run to Goodwill for the next day’s outfit, till I had a week’s

Time.

Call me paranoid, but having lived and traveled through various countries I’m going to advance the craaaaaaazy conspiracy theory that public transportation in most of the United Stes is designed to torment and humiliate the poor rather than to actually be useful and reliable.

I own low income rental property in a Midwestern city, and one thing I tell every single tenant when I sign a lease with them is that the minute they think they’ll have trouble with rent, call me and tell me. I can’t make rent cheaper, but I am 100% willing to make a payment plan or at least waive late fees if they

One thing people forget about when talking about food and poverty is that many people do not have their own source of refrigeration and/or cooking. Many people who live below the poverty line might live in shared housing where it’s not a great idea to leave your food in the communal fridge. So they rely on

There are genuinely very few things that make me as sad as the fact that the Shuttle program was cancelled.

Having already recommended the comment by NasalRadiator911, I must say I was disappointed in that particular part of the article as well, Tyler.

I was in my first year of college. My mom worked for Rockwell on the Shuttle team and she always got me up early to watch launches so she called me the night before to remind me to set my alarm. I called her a few seconds after the explosion. She was shattered and just managed to get out, “I can’t talk right now.”

I watched it on TV. I was 5 and it bothered the hell out of me. That singular event is why I am an aeronautical engineer today. I wanted to be a part of the team that prevents spaceships from breaking.

Yep — on the plus side, it’s like how fighter pilots and bomber crews talk about being detached from the loss of human life. When you don’t see it up close, you don’t really process it as readily.

I grew up on the East Coast about 70 miles from the Cape. I watched almost every launch, including the one on a beautiful morning in 2nd grade where the teachers all had us convinced that wasn’t the shuttle — it was just a weather rocket that had exploded.

The embodied spirit and potential of man.

Just did some napkin math (see kids, commenting on the internet is why you pay attention in math class).

can we have gif party plox?

See also: why so many American aircraft were left in bare metal at the end of WWII rather than the camouflage paint from earlier in the war. (weight reasons, also you don’t need camouflage as much if you have total air superiority)

“Sadly, the Shuttle Program would turn out to be more of a very expensive anchor that would keep mankind stuck in orbit for decades than a economical space plane that could facilitate exploration beyond earth’s orbit.” Incorrect. You need to research the unclassified Shuttle program accomplishments. No need to even up

When you put it that way, he should actually be insulted they accepted it. “It’s not good enough for a white guy, but it’s good enough for an Asian guy. We’ll take it.”

Roses are red

Sorry, but I can’t stand poetry.
