My argument isn’t so much about this tower or this neighborhood so much as towers in general. There’s always a protest that “This tower will destroy the neighborhood!” But while those arguments about the negative local effects may be valid, the flip side is that mega developments all over the country are eating into

Good news! Hill can neither take nor receive calls, so you never have to worry about dropped calls again!

But open land is under threat from developers. I’d rather build up on the land that’s already developed.

Excuse me, this is a family website! Put that thing away.

No, but that is another scenario that would apply.

So far we’ve been able to avoid any massive Malthusian disasters through science and engineering, but it stands to reason that there has to be a point of diminishing returns for those.

Interesting. If a lot of people are having an experience like yours, maybe there’s a built-in flaw in Metacritic’s scoring model. Perhaps if RT does take a nosedive that’ll be an opportunity for Meta to improve what it does and steal their visitors.

Not that it negates your point, but I’ve never set foot IN the five boroughs. Never been to NYC.

I heard a rumor on a blog out of Mongolia that it’s solar powered.

Sorry, I have to buy every generation of every Apple product. It’s the only way to be a REAL Apple fan. Nevermind that my house is in foreclosure and I’ve sold my kidneys to the Uzbekistani mob.

Space alone won’t save us, but it would be a necessary component of a series of solutions.

I have failed the True Test of Faith of the Apple Fanboy. I will appeal to Bishop Wozniak for forgiveness.

So are you thinking that this case is just a wedge to force Apple to create a tool that they can use going forward as they see fit?

Good point. Ebert not only lamented the “thumbs up, thumbs down” system of his own TV show (which is analogous to “fresh/rotten”), but he sometimes felt hemmed in by the star system he used for his newspaper reviews. With half stars he had 9 different grades he could award and still felt it wasn’t enough

George Washington should have foreseen this! Darn him and his wooden teeth!

You’re intending to troll, but I do worry that a Logan’s Run-type future is inevitable at our current population growth rates. I’d rather see skyscrapers all over the place than something like that.

Oh yeah, every Hill comes with a U2 concert for sure. Why wouldn’t you want a U2 concert? Everyone loves U2. No, you can’t get one without a U2 concert.

If we’re not going to move off-world anytime soon, and we’re not going to slow our population growth, then building up is the only remaining option to keep from chewing up our remaining open land. The NIMBYs are going to have to accept that projects like this one are necessary even if they bring some downsides.

I just think it’s pretty obvious that Steve Jobs laid out his vision for Hill to Jony Ive before he died. If you can’t see the brilliance of it you’re just a hater.

Fortunately, I’ve long preferred Metacritic to Rotten Tomatoes anyway. It’s basically the same content, but I like the layout better.
