The criticism was there long before UnReal. I think they’ve been upping the number of black contestants for seasons trying to make this happen — to appease critics who don’t even watch the show. So I do think it’s a good thing, the call (I don’t think) was coming from current viewers, so it’s not goodwill.

Why is that cynical? That is a major network pushing for diversity as hard as they can (without taking a major financial risk by casting an unknown).

Yeah, typically the books i read the fastest are the worst in terms of quality writing. But that’s also what makes them enjoyable. Like binge-watching a show.

Compelling story. The writing in those is bad. Dan Brown is not good (tho he is much, much better) but I read every book he writes. I’ve never underlined anything or been like “that was good” but they’re very very interesting and fast-paced.
