Time travelers from 30/40/50 years ago probably found the joke quite entertaining.

Fuck yes Alaska Airlines. Always fly Alaska on my own dime. For work it’s a crapshoot; sometimes I can get them but sometimes I have to settle for American or Delta. When I’m lucky enough that it’s Alaska, my anxiety level automatically goes down.

Even with air conditioning, difficult these days to classify the PNW as any kind of “climate haven”. We essentially have a fifth season now, “wildfire season”, slowly taking over what were once the peak precious months of summer here.

Israel and “the Jews” are two separate entities. Extremists of every flavor will argue with you this is not the case. Do not believe them.

He will never admit error.

So, just like coal, we’re going to crater the environment and sacrifice the greater good because “jobs”? Wouldn’t it be more effective then to just have a robust jobs program and social safety net?

Palestinian here.

The truth is not far off.

This whole thing is fucking stupid.

Also you run into a throughput issue. Deep frying one turkey takes, depending on the size of the bird, between 40 minutes and what, an hour?

I find these kinds of shows mostly just make me wish I was playing D&D* with my own friends instead of watching someone else do it.

Chances of these complaints sparking another standing ovation for him from the most deplorable dregs society has to offer?

I hear that. I’ve never worked in food service but I have plenty of friends who have, and my wife has some particularly nasty stories about a particular chef who was frequently high on coke, stole her wages, and once spat in her face. She ultimately had to take him to small claims court to get her pay.

Agree. Granted, my sample size was an N=1. But that one time was underwhelming. If that experience was a fair representation, I wouldn’t say deep frying a turkey isn’t worth burning the house down; I’d say it simply isn’t worth doing. There are far less cumbersome ways to get a far superior bird.

I’ve only had deep fried turkey once. It wasn’t a fair test since it wasn’t just deep fried turkey but a turducken, so perhaps not an accurate measure of what the results would be. Anyway, it was terrible. Just a greasy, bland mess. The only flavor was the flavor of the oil.

Wow that was great, thanks for sharing! Articulated a lot of my experience and feelings.

Holy shit I forgot about that guy. I actually had one of his cookbooks as well! I’d bought it used at the library for a dollar and thumbed through it out of curiosity but never really seriously used it. It ended up in a box next to the trash during a move; I have no recollection if that was before or after the news

Batali was the first chef I really started following; Molto Italiano was the first cookbook I ever purchased. Besides my mom and grandmothers, he’s the first “teacher” I ever had when it came to cooking and I feel like I still approach recipes — or cooking off the cuff — with the mindset I evolved from reading Molto

Do you think it’s casino/hotel owners who will be sitting in 3+ hours of traffic, sweating bullets about clocking in on time or getting their pay docked? Or the maids and waitresses?

Obligatory
