Same here, I heard the interview this morning on the way to work. I was pretty horrified and weirdly amused at the whole thing. Props to Steve Inskeep for staying professional and direct. Gorka has been on NPR a few times and I think its been getting worse every time.

Seriously? There is no way that’s true.

I’m honestly shocked that she initially rejected this and was uncomfortable with it.

What exactly is white feminism? Every time I google it I get the most varying and convuluted answers. Some people describe it as essentially feminist-lite, but then some people describe it as blatantly racist and oppressive.

Agreed. Crispin seems to be a very radical feminist...and the things she is saying are pretty standard for radical feminists. This is not a sleight on her at all, but I kind of get the feeling a lot of Jezebel commenters may not be familiar with radical feminism, because they are so used to liberal feminism. Like to

I feel the same. This woman seems very intelligent and radical and I agree with much of what she said. It bums me out that she prefers not to use the term anymore because it just further shows how the word has been so watered down to the point where its meaningless. When I first started telling people I was a

I’m really shocked at some of these comments on this article. They are so tone-deaf. Everyone keeps saying they were poor or not well off while in the same sentence talking about vacations to EUROPE. I’m getting some serious second-hand embarrassment.

Same experience here. I’m a classic white liberal and was so shocked at the outcome, while many of my black and Latino friends were totally not surprised at all. It definitely was an eye-opener.

I’m really needing some strength right now. My boyfriend and I recently broke up for valid reasons, but we still care about one another. I’m currently going through some general overall stress and am feeling very lonely and down tonight. Its taking everything in me not to reach out to him. Do things get better?

Its definitely very telling how so many people (even progressives) over the past few months have kept saying “can’t they work on becoming a citizen? can’t they do it legally?” Its really, really, really difficult to become a citizen. Even the whole “just marry a U.S. citizen” trope is a total myth. Its incredibly

It kills me to say this but I agree with you.

The trope of “I’m too mature to be on a reality show” is a paradox because the simple fact that Ariana agreed to be on a reality show displays that she is still ridiculous like everyone else. Its like how I can’t stand when Lisa Vanderpump complains about her staff not working and dating each other. YOU CREATED A

I don’t understand it at all. Everyone immediately created this narrative (with absolutely no proof as far as I can tell) that she is trapped and in an abusive marriage and has no way out. No clue why everyone is feeling so terrible for her, she’s a gold digger.

I think its really sexist for people to automatically assume she is in an abusive and unwanted relationship. It takes away her agency. Just because we don’t like Donald Trump doesn’t mean the rest of the world does (see - HIM WINNING THE PRESIDENCY). There is no evidence at all that suggests she is “trapped.” I

Absolutely, very well said. I would love to see a push for women to study history.

Counterpoint - as a millennial woman, I understood entirely what she meant.

Dear America made me who I am today...no exagerration. Because of those books I discovered a deep love for American history coupled with a strong identification of my Americanness. I went on to major in United States History in college and I now teach U.S. History and Government at the high school level. Those books

You are correct. As a fellow history nerd, as well as history teacher, the United States has certainly gone through major crises before. And people have been saying for a while that there has been a kickback/conservative backlash brewing since the end of Clinton’s presidency. This is that backlash coming into fruition

I have faith and optimism that the American people and the ones who care about our nation and our democracy will rise up against this tyrant. Its certainly going to be a difficult four years, there is no doubt about that, and we all will need to work harder. But I know that the United States can survive this.

Saving this.
