Exactly. Its like how Americans call themselves “expats” when they move overseas. I wouldn’t call them refugees, but they’re definitely immigrants.

So I know this is going to sound dramatic, but I figured I’d respond to your comment. You make a really valid and strong point. Obviously we don’t want to go out of our way to protect criminals. However, this is how it starts. I am afraid that this order will lead to more restrictive immigration orders in the future.…
Good and understandable question. I am a Miami native and currently still living in Miami. I am a white American. Cubans had, essentially, special privileges for the last 20 years. Under the “wet foot, dry foot” policy enacted by President Clinton in 1995, any Cuban immigrant who made it to U.S. land was allowed to…
Just give him a chance! Never mind that this is not some entry level internship position you got from your dad’s friend, but rather the most important job in the world.
Really baffled at all the “he would have won!” posts. Hell would freeze over before Americans elect anyone even somewhat slightly related to socialist ideals.
Absolutely. I have a pretty radical base of friends, and I watched all this play out on social media. They spent essentially a year bashing Clinton and wondering whether to bother voting at all. That doesn’t exactly get people fired up to go out to the polls.
It is certainly difficult. The left fractures so easily. I don’t know what your stances are on the Women’s March, and while there is valid criticism of some of the aspects of the March I am getting nervous because there are already a million thinkpieces of why the Women’s March is bad because of white feminism. Again,…
I guess people really thought Trump had no chance so it was worth casting a protest vote. I hope more than anything that all the people upset who didn’t vote show up for the midterms.
Exactly, and I think a lot of people grew complacent. My first election was Obama in 2012 (I’m only 25) and while I don’t really remember GWB specifically, since I wasn’t political yet at that time, I do remember my mother just absolutely loathing him. I mean she would start yelling and complaining everytime he came…
So happy to see Babes in Toyland on there! Fontanelle tops my list for sure.
Someone made the good point that simply wearing a shirt from the NAACP, SPLC, BLM Movement, etc does the trick of signifying that you are an ally and not a Trumpeter. I think wearing a BLM shirt is a great idea. The proceeds go to BLM and it shows you’re an ally without the “look at me” quality of the white women…
Really simple but excellent point. Wearing a BLM shirt especially displays “allyship,” I’d say.
I know exactly how you feel. It PAINS me to say this but I’d actually rather have Mike Pence because I think in the grand, grand scheme of things, he is “safer.”
Its also kind of a paradox with reality shows. The simple fact that Lisa agrees to be on two reality shows means that she isn’t above the fray.
I love VPump and RHOBH but I don’t fall for the whole Lisa is queen nonsense. It drives me crazy how she cultivates this image of her being this super hard worker constantly with her nose to the grind (especially in VPR) when in reality she married Ken Todd when she was 20 years old after he was already an established…
I love these shows for the escapism aspect. I work all day teaching history and government, I tutor kids after work, and I go to graduate school in the evenings where we discuss social change and current events nonstop. By the time I get home at night, I need to just turn off my brain and be entertained for a bit.…
This is annoying of me but I’ll ask - I started to watch Shameless and in the very beginning, when the dad was describing the family, they show a little kid holding a cat next to a blow torch in his room. I was super horrified and turned it off. I’d like to watch the show, but is there cruelty to animals in it?
I’m always going to be one of the few people defending Girls. I think the show is great. There are moments in the show that feel so real and relatable its insane.
*Sobs* Last year my dad offered to pay for a teeth cleaning because I hadn’t gone in 3 years. Of course, I had 4 cavities. Of course, I wasn’t going to make my dad pay for the fillings, so of course, I paid a lot of money (no dental insurance) to fix it all up. I now get my teeth cleaned every 5 months and pay for it…
For sure, I was of course initially upset about having to go to Trump’s Inauguration but I’m looking forward to the week. I am really excited for my students to just get to observe and be a part of such a serious and historic time. They’ve got a great mindset, they’re all very excited.
