Agreed. Jezebel came close to being respectful but juuuuust missed it by kind of saying "well bell hooks is old so her views are outdated so lets just move along here!"

Okay, this is going to sound rude but fuck it - bell hooks is an extremely accomplished and intelligent scholar who has written numerous books on racism and sexism and social issues, she is very well known amongst feminists. If you've never heard of her before, well...that's on you.

I am glad that you did not dismiss hooks and her viewpoint (like the Gawker article did).

This sounds more like a children problem than a husband problem.

Good luck! You will knock 'em dead.

I had finals too, but they were mostly writing-oriented. And writing is 5 million times better than bubbling in scantron sheets.

This is why I love being a history major. Finals were just final essays we had to turn in by the end of the semester, and I loved working at my own pace and knowing that it wasn't an objective, "make or break" test.

Yeah...I am graduating soon and going to be looking for a high school teaching job, and from the internships I've done, I cannot imagine WHY teachers even get with high school students. They're in an entirely different world!! I really think that teachers who do this have a pretty big underlying issue.

Okay, if you were the "exact same" as a senior in college as you were a senior in high school, then that's kind of sad.

Yeah, I agree with you and I don't really get that Bombata comment. High school students are in an entirely different phase of life than anyone over the age of 20, I'd say.

That's kind of subjective. In my experience/in my circles, it'd be super weird for a 17 year old high school senior to date a recent college grad, but it would be pretty normal for a 24 year old to date a 35 year old.

Well, maybe that's how casual she feels about it. Which is perfectly fine. Why is it so hard to understand that not everyone sees abortion the same way you do?

Wow. I wish I had been there to yell at that lady and kick her ass. I tend to respond quickly with anger when I see people being dicks in public and I'm just an onlooker. Like at the Post Office.

"I think humiliation is so bad, and cuts so deep, because it reinforces the self-loathing we try so hard NOT to cling to."

I agree with you. This story has got me really riled up because its shown us just one of the many deeply heinous and terrifying human/women's/girls' rights issues that exist in the world. While American feminists are over here reclaiming the word "slut," there are teenaged girl being raped, sold into trafficking, and

Why? She isn't doing anything wrong. She is terminating a clump of cells that she feels she cannot adequately take care of. She is utilizing a safe and entirely legal procedure. Abortion is only ever portrayed as the end of the world, so this video was sorely needed.

Right. Also, in my experience, most women that are sexually active think about abortion just in general. Like, as soon as you start having sex and using birth control, getting pregnant crosses your mind. You think about your options. Its not like women magically get pregnant and are like "oh my god I NEVER thought

I made a Webquest (students have to navigate online resources to answer the question) posting the question - did President Roosevelt have prior knowledge of the attack on Pearl Harbor? I know its a bit conspiratorial, but I've read the theory in a few reputable books, and I wanted them to look at in through the lens

I genuinely had no idea there were so many "pro-choicers" who still think a woman should feel shame and regret for getting an abortion. The Gawker comments were really surprising. If you're pro-choice, you don't get to decide how that woman makes that choice or how she reacts to that choice. You don't get to decide

The comments on Gawker are so terrible! They're all from "pro-choicers" that are horrified a woman had an abortion and wasn't bedridden with depression in grief for a year afterwards.
