To be fair, every single Lena Dunham article has at least 5 threads asking why Jez is still writing about her.

OH MY GOODNESS. I totally forgot all about that short story, but we read it in, like, middle school! Thanks for mentioning it! I'm gonna go read it right now >:)
Yes, I know, but she's beautiful. I find it really hard to get behind the message and feel all empowered when its this gorgeous woman singing it. The way actors and singers go about their own daily lives IS important to me when they make big statements about the society we live in.
But my issue is that Beyonce is extremely conventionally attractive. It just seems really hypocritical because at the end of the day she is a really beautiful woman so she DOESN'T understand how it really feels to be "ugly." If a normal looking girl were singing that song maybe I'd respond better to it - its just hard…
I spent 7 years straightening my hair with the Brazilian Keratin treatment, I spent a lot of time and money and pain trying to tame my unruly curls. Finally not caring and somewhat embracing my hair was liberating for me. Don't assume everyone has pretty straight hair.
I read the lyrics and then watched the video. I found it hypocritical because she is beautiful. You know what hurts? Not being able to look at yourself in the mirror, cutting your wrists and pulling your hair out while in tears because you know you're the ugliest girl in your whole grade and you KNOW everyone else…
Chelsea Peretti's simple tweet pinpoints why that song made me uncomfortable.
Please, don't try to play that game. Saying "It really irks you to have the hard work of a black woman acknowledged and lauded" is absolutely implying that the OP doesn't like black women, implying that the OP is racist. Don't try to backpedal when people object to you making ridiculously strong statements like that.
I love your comment. The reason I dislike Beyonce is because she is SUCH a weak example of feminism these days. Jez claiming she is a feminist role model just shows how fucked feminism is these days in the third wave. I mean, Beyonce tip-toes around the F word constantly, getting her to admit she MAY be a feminist is…
So the OP is a racist for disliking Beyonce?
Yeah, I'm sort of baffled at how many comments are dismissing criticism as just racism. I have a million valid reasons for disliking Beyonce, but I don't even want to get into it because I know everyone is just going to call me a racist.
She also lightens her skin and has a song called "Why Don't You Love Me" in which she sings about how she "has ass" so how dare a man not love her? While parading around in lingerie and smeared makeup for 4 minutes.
Especially because its well-known that Beyonce lightens her skin. She is no role model.
I really can't wait for this dumb trend of worshipping Beyonce to die down. It was barely funny to begin with, now its just boring and old.
That article was so manipulative and misleading. I saw the headline, read the article, and was really angered that Jez thought its commenters were dumb enough to buy into the angle they were pushing for. That doctor had some valid and legitimate points to talk about relating to the BRCA1 mutant gene, and they just…
This post made me giddy. You nailed it. Agree 100%. Hell yes.
"I actually do have a problem with the girls who wear skimpy outfits but then try to claim that they aren't doing it for men."
Thank you, this is what people nowadays just do not seem to understand. And even the "alternative" famous porn stars are still really hot people, I'll never look as good as Sasha Gray. So how is that empowering for me and the millions of other average girls?
This is actually a pretty offensive comment. You're literally saying that every single Christian is the exact same, and you come off sounding very ignorant and bitter.
For real. I grew up/live in Miami and our version of cholas are "chongas." A lot of white/jewish girls in high school dressed like the Hispanic girls we spent our time with and no one got all up in arms. In fact everyone bonded over it.
