Someone asked me what book I’m reading at the moment and I had to stop myself when I got to the fifth one... partially cause I’d lost track of which book is in which purse/on which table/on which e-reading device. You are my people.

I don’t think that reading is actually correlated to intelligence so much as it is a measure of empathy and curiosity. I don’t care what you read,* but willingness to read is really important to me because it shows some kind of desire to learn about the world around you.

“Rich” is a mental state, dontcha know.

I like your name. ^-^

I would argue that the people who are outraged at this, and making their outrage known, aren’t doing so because they want better healthcare for non-prisoner trans folks.

Thank you for that first line. <3

I think it’s not that people believe prisoners deserve to be treated worse — it’s that they don’t deserve to get treated better. “If a majority of non-prisoners don’t have easy access to the procedure, then why should prisoners?” It’s still not necessarily a fair or morally okay question to ask, but I think it’s a

Personally, I’m having trouble reconciling the two things (everyone deserves the medical care they need [ethical] vs. someone who committed something abhorrent getting a standard of care many non-criminals cannot afford [unfair]), but you’re absolutely right — she should get the surgery; we just need to make it that

You do you ;)

Yes, because she was clearly being super honest and then realized she had to cover her ass. It’s hilarious.

Yeah, I hate her but I have to give her credit for making me smirk. Well played... but she’s still an asshole.

I dunno if it’s just this year, but that story made me cry.

Usually, I think of it as what protein/form of protein I’m interested in, what starch, and what veggies (if need be). If y’all aren’t vegetarian/vegan, I’d suggest starting from the protein and going from there:

Off-topic: when my boyfriend (Iranian) was starting his research position at a state-funded university, they emailed asking him what his race is as part of a survey. He responded white/caucasian. They responded, “Are you sure?”

Yup. My colleagues can give me an abstract that’s 400 words and I can get it to under the 150 word cap pretty easily now.

Every week, man. It was awful/amazing, and made me a significantly better writer (and therefore the default editor for every lab of which I’ve been a part :| ).

I’m getting my PhD in a STEM field, but I was an English major in college. If I’d tried to use that kind of language in a comp lit essay, I would’ve been given an F and told to rewrite. My professors were always adamant that if you can’t state it simply, you’re not trying hard enough. (One would gives us huge topics

Actually laughed out loud. Well done.

I’m watching The Sopranos for the first time and my first thought when reading that Christie’d been offered that position was that I think Trump is marathoning it, too. Jeez.
