I wonder if there would be a cool way to go with this theme that makes it relevant and aware— like, each page is some place that the BE took over, and there’s a paragraph at the top describing briefly the history, and then dishes that the british appropriated at the bottom? Writing it out seems weird. Never mind. >.>

“verdant shade of green”

Yeah, hence “thinking about.” Alas. I will probably end up selling my soul and going into consulting — at least then there won’t be a pretense of ‘trying to do right by science.’ D:

I’m a PhD student in computational biology and I am thinking about leaving academia for science writing because FUCK THIS KIND OF SHIT ARRRGHHHHH

But anecdotes make science. Duh! /s

As somebody whose name is Ola, I approve.

Not gonna lie, this made me laugh — i can see how it would be used disparagingly in context, because yay racism, but given the context-less list, it just looked... v. out of place.

I can see this for other products, but I very much disagree for books. I get ARCs (advanced review copies) for free from various book sites (as do many book nerds; we’re not paid) and I’ve seen (and given) many terrible reviews on ARCs. Even if ARCs weren’t a thing, though, you’d also be discounting people who get

This is a good idea.

I think it might have read a little differently if it were a women’s shirt — that seems more of a call to assertiveness. That being said, given how much victim-blaming happens and how a lot of people have zero idea that only yes means yes... It just doesn’t seem like good idea.

My heart goes out to any partner or child who has to deal with abuse :( I don’t like saying I’m glad someone’s dead, but... it does not seem that he will be missed in the slightest.

Not in any way related to the art world (hello, computational biology) and even I’M offended by it. No touchie!!

That’s the thing — JKR seems to be so aware of the world (although she wasn’t necessarily in the books, but she’s writing diversity in, and I think that’s great); I don’t understand why she wouldn’t reach out to Native communities and, like, ask. Or something. I dunno. I’m disappointed in her.

Where do MRAs get their water?

Thank you.

I’m gonna guess the rationale would be “She never got to go, so we can make it like prom for her” or something — good intentions with zero concept of how much it could hurt her family.

“Why don’t you just say no?”

HER? I saw her on Top Chef and she seemed like a ditz who was trying way too hard to be clever/funny. :\ Am I missing something? Is she really all that and a slice of cake??

I’ve never read this book! It’s on my list for this year. D:

Good. Riddance. Fuck that guy (but don’t really, he’s awful).
