Why not? I used a number of my parenting skills in my volunteer and under-paid part time work. I haven’t spent the past decade “just” being a parent.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. “Family leave” should be the catch-all term for ANY family-related leave, regardless of who or why.

I agree that the language is kind of silly. It would be nice, though, if there were something like this in place that was widely accepted to the point where it wasn’t even remarkable. Alas.
