I think generally a story this epic and with a loooong list of characters is helped by this medium. The book introduces a ton of characters many of whom have Chinese names that just don’t roll off my American tongue, so it was a real challenge keeping the characters straight. I think that would be easier to track on TV

Half of True Detective’s appeal was the idea that there was always something deeper and weirder to the mythos.

Seems like information that should’ve been in the article.

Catherine Glavas and Christie Laume, the executors of Piaf’s estate, have indeed given their blessing to the project. Glavas and Laume are the sisters of Piaf’s second husband Théo Sarapo

Warner Music France CEO Alain Veille

Fuck this. And especially fuck the distant “relatives” of Piaf who agreed to this.

Because it wasn’t a situation unique to his contract. He can’t change how residuals work for the whole industry. No other streamer was/is offering residuals. His choice was either to take a creatively fulfilling job with decent up front pay but no residuals for Netflix, or... any other job which also wouldn't have

No the ending of the show is about midway through Wool.

Ultimately an increase in pay isn't a huge concession. The studios are rich and a small decrease in profits is a pretty easy pill to swallow, especially if it's only for the short to medium term. It's the parts about how the industry is controlled that are the bigger issue for both sides. If the studios can get away

They will never achieve the safety reliability of human drivers. There are just too many variables and glitchy sensors to fail.

I switched to a color laser 9 years ago, and it’s still going strong. It happens to be HP, but thankfully before they started some of their worst greediness. I use 3rd party toner and will never update the firmware. I will never buy a new inkjet, of any brand.

I’m not sure how long ago it was - possibly decades - but after having this happen to me once, I realized that I virtually never printed things in color at home anyway, and switched to pure B&W printers from that moment forward. Have not once ever regretted that.

The grays don't understand sarcasm.

The upside is that people are finally realizing what complete shitheads these CEOs are. They’re not genius philosopher kings, they’re just greedy assholes, and they don’t know how to create anything of worth beyond shareholder value. Hence the sudden, panicked interest in AI.

Silicon Valley and VC culture convinced Hollywood that infinite growth was possible, and now it’s gonna kill their business model.

But how can you generate ever-greater value for the stock owners and bigger and bigger bonuses for company leadership if you start handing out piles of precious money to the rank and file employees...?

Excuse me, but it’s the job of a CEO to say, “Yes, let’s make this” or “No, let’s not make this,” and that’s truly the most creative part of the industry and could NEVER be replaced with... let’s say... a spreadsheet combining a series of multi-quadrant elements like a schematic for a team of accountants to scan

And folks like Gaetz are pushing it because it foments even more distrust of the government (which he... is).

Just like in election fraud, there is no evidence to prove their case. Just statements and accusations.

  • “Non-human biologics” (aka ALIEN BODIES!!!) may have been recovered by the government. Yes, according to Grusch, the government has found some organic material not of this world and is storing it somewhere for safe keeping. The term he used to refer to this matter was “non-human biologics,” though he noted that he,
