Except Humanism is already a different thing.
Except Humanism is already a different thing.
I’m an asshole and have told people that unless they read the Wikipedia pages of both Humanism and Feminism, to instead talk to me about shit they know/understand. Maybe it’s just because I’m old and can’t waste more time explaining the same basic stuff to people who refuse to listen, but in both instances I can…
Actually no. Humanism is believing that humans can sort their shit out without the rules of a deity. It’s a form of atheism that believes rationality and empirical evidence are all we need to be better people. Egalitarianism is “I personally think everyone should be equal and that’s good enough for me.”
Yeah the word you’re looking for is egalitarian, not humanist. Humanism is a belief system based on the belief that humans can sort themselves out without rules from a divine being & focuses on rationalism and empiricism over deism. Egalitarianism is the correct term for people that believe everyone needs a little…
Except they’re two significantly different things; to even suggest one is an alternative to the other illustrates a fundamental ignorance of both. I think before anything else changes, we should make it illegal to form and share opinions about a subject without at least reading its Wikipedia entry. I’m so tired of…
Can we ban people who don't effing know what humanism is from using the word in conversation or nah?
I can not wait for Yeezy comments. I’ll start:
It’s uncanny, right?
I know! I’m from the north, so I never really cared about the confederate flag one way or the other, but the Duke brothers are just a couple good ol’ boys, never meaning no harm! I guess, in fairness, they have been in trouble with the law since the day they was born.
She was great! The other thing that always pops into my head, and will until the end of time whenever Sesame Street is mentioned;
someone at Jez needs to interview this woman:
Please repeat this to yourself as needed, because it is absolutely the biggest obstacle in American public discourse: an uninformed belief, no matter how strong the conviction, does not deserve a seat at the table next to informed fact. The notion that someone’s beliefs must be honored, considered and ultimately…
Taylor and Calvin and Joe and Gigi and Karlie
Every party has a pooper, I suppose.
That’s what we call burying the lede.
I’m a Christian, and a Republican, and a White guy. Now before everyone immediately burns me at the stake, let me say this. I believe that equal rights for everyone is right. As it says in the Declaration of Independence “that all Men (Obviously should be Persons) are created equal, that they are endowed by their…
Those poor Christians! The underrepresented majority. It’s not like six of the nine Supreme Court Justices, 91.8% of Congress, and the President of the United States are all Christian or something!
For anyone who was waiting to have the honor of seeing someone use the Appeal to Authority Fallacy as both a thesis and supportive argument, the moment has arrived!
Oh, I get it. She’s supposed to wait quietly until the people in power decide to do the right thing. After all, that’s how all things get accomplished.
It’s “real” in that it’s a body that exists in the world. I’m pretty sure you’re the same commenter who was snarking on Taylor Swift a while back for having no ass, and now you’re contributing to snark directed at Kim K because apparently her ass is TOO big. I wonder if anyone can live up to your incredibly narrow…
