Tom - I don’t disagree with the Macan, or the Pick up. However, I think there is an often forgotten alternative to the Macan that beats the Macan S on reliability and performance. Infiniti FX50 (or FX50S) (QX70S). High quality materials, high quality build, really great engine, AWD, similar interior space to Macan.

42 cars is a pretty good start! I’m a bit behind (somewhere in the mid 20's for total cars with at least 15 different brands). For some of us, buying a used car to tinker with and enjoy for a year and selling it on is great fun! Some people snort coke, some of us pay sales tax on used cars. We all get to spend our

Perhaps if you put 38 years of your life in to GM, starting at 18 as a body panel inspector, still working while getting a Masters Degree from Stanford and outworking every other person in your way, you might have some understanding of what it took to earn her salary. She may not be perfect, but no-one can accuser

Agree! I have a 1999, 2001, 2004, 2009 and a 2012 in the driveway. With maintenance and care, $5K=50K miles with the right purchase. Yes, a wheel bearing may go from time to time, and bushings are likely going to be needed.

Thanks BrawnyChicken!  You’re the best!  Thanks for keeping the economy going!

The roof comes off, right?  RIGHT!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!  Otherwise, just another ho hum Range Rover...  If the roof does come off, or soft top as an option on the 3 door... then I’ll be used car shopping in 4 years when the 3 year lease deals are back at the dealer.  I’ve got a Wrangler, but have always lusted after the

I see someone already mentioned the Hyundai Genesis, but I think they picked the wrong Sister. Kia K900 all the way to wherever you need to go! Here is a beautiful large sedan, with V8 power, long legs, room for days and amazing highway cruiser. And best of all- here is a certified unit for a tick over your budget.

still actively managed by the Navy.  Proceed with extra caution.  Don’t end up like the Area51 insurgents. Stay outside their perimeter is recommended.

I know where this is happening! And I have keys to the gate! Wait, no, I definitely DO NOT have keys to the gate. Sorry. (it’s a combo lock).

Sport WagonHey Now! Check out this low mileage example from rust free SoCal!

having spent 7 days cycling across Iowa last year, I can totally see this.  I forget where I live sometimes.  It is a very different place, even though it’s the same Country.  I wish we could put that fact to better use, as a strength, but my kind can’t be President yet. :)

I see several a week.  And as of late, at least one Urus a week now for a month or so.  Then again, I travel up and down the 5 freeway from San Diego to LA on a regular basis.  So perhaps my view is skewed?  Also - it still amazes me when friends come in town and are shocked to see a bunch of Teslas.  Teslas are about

I skimmed the comments and did not see a Pontiac G8 GT or GXP on the list?  Sounds like it fits the bill pretty well?  28 mpg on the highway should be doable with deft pedal toes.  Don’t forget about these cars!!!!

I got to 8 and got hungry.

how the fuck should I know?

My first thought was a Lexus LFA.  If fits many of his criteria.  And then I checked pricing.  Holy balls batman!  Nearly triple his budget!  Whoa...  But dang, I really do like that car.  I’m going to check the “I know what I have” section of Craigslist and see if I can find an LFA for around 12K.

I read through a good amount of comments but did not see any mention of tires. Headlights are arguably less important than tires as one could choose to only drive during the day? But always on tires? Anyway - upgraded packages also come with much better tires, allowing for better stopping and handling. Brakes -

Some Damn fine video and editing work and an even finer Gentleman behind the build.  I would love to see him go back through his road trip now that the truck is built and find those folks that helped him along the way.  I’m sure some are ghosts, some are dust, and some are still around.  Kudos all the way around.

for a long block, with no labor. Now ask what it cost to have your vehicle torn down, engine swapped and put back together - at dealer rates. I can buy a replacement tesla motor for cheap too. That doesn’t equate to what we are talking about. But, sure... dealers are super cheap to do engine swaps on ICE vehicles.

Really? Because this one guy needed it? I’m not a Tesla fangirl, but yikes. One event does not make a trend. And I’ll just leave this here: Porsche IMS
