A LOT of folk ballads are about a man drowning/stabbing/strangling his girlfriend - sometimes because she rejects him, sometimes to cover an out of wedlock pregnancy, sometimes for no apparent reason.

How exciting! I love Jaqueline’s parents - they could have just written them as a punchline, but they give them so many great lines.

Lincoln. Nice try.

Agreed, but it might be a lot to expect of the young actors to, especially when the truly authentic accents of the time don’t exist any more. Maybe there’ll be some more old-timey accents on the older characters, though - I certainly hope so.

IMDb listings for TV shows can be very spotty, as I think cast members have to be added manually for each episode (which is why it can sometimes be hard to find out who played a one-off character in a show). I’m thinking that must be the case here, because without Dinah and Gilbert there’ll be an awful lot of time to

As a huge fan of MGH and her work, I could not be more surprised and delighted to see this article. It’s always nice to see the studio executives are still as lame as they were in the 1940s.

Zing!

I like him, but this is far from Glover at his most eloquent. Just a weirdly awkward phrasing of the standard ‘Hollywood is a magical dream’ theme.

I’m sure there are other jokes that elicit cringes from more socially conscious people, but I used that particular joke of an example of a joke that would NEVER make it on air in the first place in the UK. Not because we’re better, just we have a far more well-known history of racism against people from the Indian

it is counterproductive to laugh because the stakes are so serious

Reminds me of Lane in Gilmore Girls...

Exactly. They would have to change it so much that it would only retain the elements which have since become the epitome of generic.

That’s so interesting!
