As a female curler I will agree with that! :)

Mr. BigMac- when we were in Bellmore sometimes people who took the LIRR to the closest stop would have a club member come pick them up. I haven’t been out there since we moved to the new facility so I’m unsure about train stop distance (and I’m from PA and would drive in for leagues because curling rules and crazy…
I don’t think there’s a club in Alabama but there is interest in starting one in Mississippi. You should find some other enthusiasts and get one started! Trust me the best way to beat summer heat is inside curling :)
Thanks for your feedback and curling is growing in the southern US...so there may even be curling lurking near you now or at some point in the future. We are a friendly bunch and I assure you if it’s an arena club in the South, they would always be welcoming to someone interested in learning more or stopping by to…
Aw thanks for caring what curlers think! I think it’s interesting that Gushue is using the Hardline product and but he has also stirred up controversy because he was using one sweeper. I’m not even close to pro and curl recreationally. Several years ago before this broom hullabaloo and before manufacturers like…
...and ice techs can even use different pebbling heads to determine how fine or large the pebble is per sheet! It’s crazy how much goes into prepping a curling surface for a small club let alone a world class event.

Participants would bring rocks and play outdoors on lochs and lakes and debris would be in the way. Brooms were needed to get leaves, twigs, etc off the surface outdoors. Obviously we’ve come a long way from bring…
Teams even at the novice club level usually go out after games and have beer and food and socialize. The term is broomstacking. And bonus: if you lose, the winning team is supposed to buy the first round. So if you are at a tournament (called a bonspiel) and you do horribly the bonus is you drink a lot for free!
When I teach newbies I say it’s unnatural human motion. You can learn the basics in about an hour but it takes a lifetime to master the sport. I have had my ass kicked by 80+ year old who don’t sweep and deliver with the stick. That’s part of the beauty of this sport!
It’s still out on LI and there are opportunities to learn! We curl there all year round so make the trip some time: licurling dot org!
There is no skating involved! You are just in curling shoes that have rubber bottoms or you can have the Teflon on one shoe exposed as you go down the ice.
