Poor Valve. If only they had a near monopoly on digital game transactions for close to 2 decades to soften the blow...

Those of us who live in the south bay (more much desireable, IMHO) doesn’t give any fucks.

A close second would likely be the Bay Bridge’s glowing strands. However, those lights could be going out forever on Sunday.

You know what else looks good? A sky full of undiminished stars.

Yup, Half-Life is really all about vibes.

The Last Of Us and MS vs Sony are my favorite series of 2023

why would that make the life of people at Valve harder? Is not like they are working on Half-Life 3 right now, right?

Controversial opinion... the story kinda doesn’t matter in Half Life. Every entry ends on a cliffhanger, and it always opens up more questions than it answers. It’s mostly a backdrop for Valve’s masterclass game design. I love Alyx to death, but the story just makes timelines confusing, and it doubles down the series’

“I think it caused trouble for my friends [at Valve], and made their lives harder.”

i know fans aren’t owed a conclusion, but i’m glad he posted it -- was enough to let me stop caring about getting an official ending

I’m glad he mentioned not loving mixing Portal and HL into one story. The tone just never really matched and while it was a fun little easter egg for Portal, it’s goofy for Half Life.

Are the unions in the room with us now?

Did you just pull that out of your behind? How did it flop?

Exactly...what’s been happening with unionization in the industry. This is a perfect example of why its needed, to lay off that many people and not honor their (QAs) contracts is unbelievable.

Apex has made a ton of money - over $2 billion and that’s not a current figure. It’s just not maintaining its steam. Not sure how in any way it’s a flop it’s just dying out.

I disagree. While not their employer it was EA’s decision to end the testing being done. It’s just way more nuanced than the headline.

They will be provided 60 days severance, though that won’t cover the length of many people’s contracts, sources said

Automated testing is a thing and it is very useful. It’s provided by a specialized QA/engineer. Kind of how a Tech-Artist is a specialization of an artist/engineer.
