I’ve seen a few. Even saw an FJ-40 with the windshield down this spring. And I do it myself every summer when it’s at least 85°.
Originally for transport overseas in boxes, I believe. Now because it’s fun and great on hot days.
As an occasional off-roader, I love the manual. I think were I doing heavy rock crawling I’d want an auto, but in every other way I want a stick. So much less braking down hills, plus the inherent fun of a manual.
The good news is, we’ve killed off so many bugs I rarely get hit. Maybe once every 3-4 days with the windshield down.
