I wouldn’t go blaming streaming and Netflix for the failure of independent theaters and the struggles even the chains are having. Those problems have been on going for longer than streaming has been a thing. Fuck it was a major topic back when I was in college and Netflix had just launched as the DVD by mail service.

In this case, I don’t think not naming the person is another slight. It’s an easily searchable name, but even an apologize is an amplification for someone who doesn’t want a larger profile. Not naming them again is a considerate action here.

The problem with this is the power difference. Bestselling, millionaire authors with large fan bases are attacking an unknown college student and pretending the criticism actually hurts them in any real way. It doesn’t.
